Diet after gallbladder surgery

The gallbladder, a small but important organ of the digestive system, sometimes forms stones. In severe cases, its removal requires abdominal surgery. After cholecystectomy (this is the name of surgical manipulation), a person is no longer able to collect bile and must have a lot in the bile ducts, otherwise it will stagnate.

Diet after gallbladder surgery will help maintain the patient's health. This helps to prevent complications and bring a person back to full life.

  2. Limit the intake of fats (lard, breast, fried lamb). Such food is difficult to process in the stomach and puts a lot of strain on the liver.
  3. Drink plenty of water and juices. Herbal teas, fresh juices of fruits and vegetables are useful: cabbage, root-apple, pumpkin, root-celery. Aerated water, beetroot and diluted plant juices are contraindicated.
  4. Drink mineral water only with a doctor's permission. Six months after a cholecystectomy and your doctor allows you to use them in your diet, start drinking mineral water or herbal teas.
  5. Take polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega 3).
  6. Alcoholic and low-alcohol beverages should be completely eliminated after gallbladder surgery.
  7. Minimize the intake of foods high in cholesterol. The absence of the gallbladder does not exclude the appearance of cholesterol-forming stones.
  8. Spicy and smoked foods are taboo (red and black pepper, bitter spices, vinegar).
  9. Change your cooking style. After the operation, boil, cook and steam the food to protect yourself from the recurrence of gallstones.
  10. Eat small. Divide food intake into 5-8 times a day. Drink plenty of water during meals and eat in small portions. Often with bile secretion, stagnation is least likely.
  11. People who are not well-nourished are recommended to eat a minimum of carbohydrates.
  12. After gallbladder surgery, the diet should be balanced, with enough minerals and vitamins.
